Lombard Park District
Lombard Park District is located in Lombard, Illinois which is a suburb of Chicago. It was founded in 1916 and it has been owned by the town for the majority of its life. The first official park was named Lions Park because of an abbreviation on an old map.
Lombard Park District has many amenities that include basketball courts, baseball diamonds, cross country courses, soccer fields, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, playgrounds and more. There are also many programs like summer camps through the community education department or after school activities through charter schools that rent out space at Park District facilities to use as their own classroom for programs during after school hours [be specific]. In addition to these there are other clubs such as Scouting which uses two buildings within the district for meetings.
Lombard Park District is always looking to improve its parks and facilities by adding new amenities and programs to better serve the community members. So far this year, they have added two cross-fit stations, a suspension bridge with rope climbing, and a tiered seating area on one of their sand volleyball courts which evenly distributes weight between participants in the court.
Also, there are free events that are held annually like Concerts in the Park or Movies in the park where children can come hang out during their summer break from school. There is also an annual 5k run/3k walk called Race for the Parks that is hosted through Charter Schools and parents alike come out to support as well as participate in this event.
